on an unassuming cassette, just labelled ‘robert rental’ in green dymo tape, these demos have lain unheard for years amongst his family’s treasured possessions, cared-for artefacts of a life cut short far too soon.
these songs, which robert recorded in his council flat in battersea in 1980, provide an enticing glimpse into his all-too-infrequent solo work. on most occasions, robert worked with thomas leer, daniel miller or other collaborators. these are rough recordings, tape hiss still in evidence, but his creativity shines through the murk, like uncut diamonds.

high quality reissue of steve lacy s rare japanese collaboration album distant voices. 180gr. vinyl and 4 page insert with liner notes by julian cowley. remastered & cut by rashad becker. thelonious monk, mal waldron, don cherry, roswell rudd, derek bailey, musica elettronica viva – saxophonist steve lacy played with them all. renowned for remarkable solo concerts that confirmed his mastery of the soprano horn and that carried its instrumental language into previously unexplored regions, lacy also loved to collaborate with musicians who could inspire him to stretch the boundaries of his own artistry.

the italian dj and producer viels is the perfect example of a promising artist who has earned his stripes in the scene. his first contribution to dynamic reflection was a single track on a va two years ago, then a solo ep on the nursery last year and now it s time for his first well-earned vinyl called distrophism. although his sound has matured over the years, he has never compromised as far as his straight forward sound goes. circular, the a1, is the best possible example of that. the continuous drive keeps it going for well over seven minutes, without ever becoming superficial or dull. the b-side extends to other sides of his musical spectrum by making use of more drone-like, hypnotic elements. beside these three convincing originals, spanish heavyweight svreca jumps in for a remix of circular, completing the variance of styles. needless to say, this new release, proves that viels as an artist and this ep in particular, are forces to be reckoned with.

pun kuyen (moon night) is the second ep of the nguillatun records label. auca immerses us in this album with a first track, curico (black water), with a techno from the depths of the water, dark hypnotism and pulsating loop. puken (winter) is full of cold atmospheres and suspended drones that create tension. lanahue (lost soul) closes the album with a strong and intense original version, and a remix with low frequencies and beats that takes us almost to the mental disconnection, from the hand of svreca, to take our breath away.
